Wedding Venues In East Sussex
Planning your wedding in East Sussex?
Hey there! So, I’m a wedding photographer based in Sussex, and I’ve been capturing those beautiful wedding moments for quite a few years now. You know, I’ve practically become buddies with most of the wedding venues here in Sussex. It’s a cosy community, you could say. Since there’s a limited number of spots in the area, I find myself snapping away at the same places quite often. But you know what? It’s all good! I genuinely feel like I hit the jackpot being surrounded by these stunning countryside wedding venues. Seriously, my couples have the tough job of picking one from these fantastic locations, and I can’t blame them because each one is just perfect for a wedding.
At a glance
There are many amazing wedding venues in East Sussex. Below is a list of some of the places, in no particular order, where I’ve had the pleasure of shooting. Take a glance at what’s available in your area from a wedding photographer’s perspective.
Blackstock Country Estate Weddings
Blackstock is one of the most authentic barn-type venues I’ve ever worked in. With its rustic black walls, huge windows and amazing outside space with sheep and alpacas you simply cannot go wrong here. Getting ready is also one of the best I’ve seen in the years of working in similar venues. They are licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies for up to 150 guests indoors and outdoors.
Pelham House Weddings
A hidden gem in the heart of rural Sussex lies the beautiful county town of Lewes – Pelham House is a unique, high-end town centre wedding venue with picturesque private gardens. Whether you want an indoor, a little more intimate or outdoor ceremony with the stunning backdrop of the gardens you won’t be disappointed at Pelham House. I particularly liked the idea of getting away from the busy environment for 20 minutes for some breathtaking photos at Lewes Castle.
Dale Hill Hotel Weddings
Dale Hill is actually on the border with Kent, so it is located on the far east side of East Sussex. The hotel is on a golf course, which, for me, felt like it was larger than the town I live in. Never mind, there is more opportunity for unique photos! Usually, on golf courses, the ‘issue’ is health & safety, and you are restricted to a small area/path away from the golfers. Here, they will go above and beyond by taking you on a trip in a golf buggy to places where you can walk into the sunset safely.
New Hall – Winchelsea Weddings
Another place that is on the east side, but now we look at the southeast of the county. New Hall is probably not the most well-known wedding venue in the region, but if you take a look at the views from its grounds, you will understand why it made it to my list. It will also seat 90 guests and has a license for alcohol and music. It is just a charming village hall on a very pretty side of East Sussex close to the coast.
Ashdown Park Hotel
Stepping into the past in a luxurious hotel, the Ashdown Park Hotel will take your guests’ breath away. Endless photo opportunities and a wedding breakfast at the impressive chapel with its stained glass windows. Ceremonies indoors and outdoors, hosting larger weddings and is located right in the heart of Ashdown Forest.
Hendall Manor Barn Weddings
Located in the countryside of East Sussex, between the A22 and A26 roads, it is super easy and quick to reach, yet it’s very quiet and undisturbed.
It’s a family-run and private wedding and events hire venue. Hendall Barn is kept in excellent condition with attention to detail and a high-end finish in all areas. You and your guests will have access to all areas of the barn, including the stunning enclosed terrace and lawn. During my time spent here, I noticed how much fun the kids had.
Laughton Barns, Lewes
Back in Lewes, or at least very close to it, between Hailsham and Lewes, there is the wonderful Laughton Barns. Where do I even start? This venue is authentic, rustic, and full of unique photo opportunities with ponds, huge oak trees, and real countryside vibes.
Laughton Barns can host up to 180 seated guests during the day and 250 for the evening party. They offer indoor and outdoor ceremonies, a large dancefloor, and plenty of activities for the younger ones too.
Eastbourne Town Hall weddings
At the heart of Eastbourne town, there is this magnificent historic Town Hall built in the 1800s in the traditional Victorian style. I have had the pleasure of photographing several weddings here, and I am still amazed by the architecture and the history of this place. It’s like stepping into the past for half an hour each time.
Choose from four different rooms suited to the size of your wedding. Walk down the main staircase in style after saying I DO and have some unique photos to cherish.
Hydro Hotel Eastbourne weddings
Still in Eastbourne, but now we have a sea view too! The Hydro Hotel will host your intimate ceremony indoors or outdoors. The Coastal Terrace will seat up to 80 guests with unforgettable views. Oh, and of course, the fancy garden is outstanding for some couple portraits.
Pangdean Old Barn Weddings
With outdoor ceremonies becoming more and more common and trendy, the Pangdean Barn wedding venue is another fantastic choice for your summer celebration. Extremely well-maintained gardens, authentic barn buildings, and horses next to the car park are just some of the exciting features of this venue. Kids will also have a blast, as the place is full of entertainment for all age groups.
